According to Where to Retire editor, Mary Lu Abbott, Port Charlotte has many of the qualities that are important to today’s retirees. “This is Florida coastal living at a bargain with homes at considerably lower prices today than a couple of years ago. A network of canals, Charlotte Harbor and nature preserves are a big draw here, providing an active outdoor lifestyle. Volunteering opportunities abound, and there’s a variety of cultural entertainment in the area. Port Charlotte is a small city, yet you still have all the amenities you want in the area without big-city congestion,” Abbott said.
